Women’s Track & Field Posts Two Event Wins At Unscored Sorlien Memorial Invitational

Minutewomen took the top spots in triple jump and shot put on Saturday.
KINGSTON, R.I. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field posted two event wins and had a top-five all-time mark set in 60 meter dash at the unscored Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Saturday at URI's Mackal Fieldhouse.
Emily McDonald was victorious in triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 3 inches, while Tyler Berry also cracked the top-eight, placing sixth with a mark of 35 feet, 5.75 inches.
Danielle Notarfancesco claimed the top spot in shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 11 inches and also placed eighth in weight throw (49'5.75"), while Gabriella Pagnini was fifth (51'4.25").
Rounding out the top UMass finishers in the field events, Jordan Lafave placed second in long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 7 inches and Lillian Kirry followed in third at 17 feet, 6.75 inches.
Grace Poku led a trio of MInutewomen who placed in the top-six in 60 meter dash, running 7.77 seconds to the runner-up spot, good for fifth all-time in program history. Abby Collins landed fourth (7.89) and Caroline Schissel was sixth (7.93).
Sarah Yocum placed fourth in 60 meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.08 seconds. In 200 meter dash, Katelyn Gorgeni came in fifth with a time of 26.74 seconds.
Daniella Pierre and Colette O'Leary both earned sixth place showings on the day, in 400 meter dash (1:01.74) and 1,000 meter run (2:58.58), respectively.
Two UMass relay squads placed in the top eight in the 4x400. Yocum, Elizabeth Hoenes, Tessa Bostwick and Sadai Headley-Mawasi teamed up to run 4 minutes, 7.47 seconds to fifth and the team of Kira Kopec, Ecaterina Rojco, Pierre and Rachel LaBonte followed in sixth at 4 minutes, 8.11 seconds.
The Minutewomen will be back in action next Saturday, January 22, at the Battle in Beantown at Boston University.
