Men’s Track & Field Picks Up Wins In 500m and 800m At Sorlien Memorial Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field picked up individual wins in the 500 and 800 meter races at the unscored Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Saturday at Rhode Island's Mackal Field House.

Lucas Honohan led a UMass trio in the top-eight of the 500 meter dash, earning the victory in 1 minute, 6.12 seconds. Colin Stoddard followed in third, crossing the finish in 1 minute, 6.73 seconds and Bernd Martens was eighth (1:09.07).

Shane Grant paced the field in the 800 meter run, claiming first in 1 minute 56:11 seconds.

Alexander Laurent rounded out UMass' top-eight performers as he posted a time of 51.58 seconds to take sixth in the 400 meter dash.

Coston O'Brien was third in shot put with a toss of 51 feet, 1.5 inches and took home fourth in weight throw (58'6").

In long jump, Tyler Glendon captured fourth (21'25.") and Ricky Arias collected seventh (19'3.5").

UMass' top relay performance of the day was provided by the squad of Alexander Laurent, Sean McKay, Honohan and Stoddard in the 4x400, combining for a second-place time of 3 minutes, 24.47 seconds.

The Minutemen will return to competition on Saturday, January 22, at the Battle in Beantown at Boston University.
