Minutewomen Shutout GW, Extend Unbeaten Streak To Ten

The 10-match unbeaten streak marks the longest for the Minutewomen since 1996.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive matches with a 2-0 shutout win at George Washington on Thursday afternoon. The streak marks the longest for the Minutewomen (7-2-3 Overall, 3-0-1 Atlantic 10) since they won 11 straight matches to open the 1996 season.
UMass got on the board within the first three minutes of play for the second straight match as Ashley Lamond put the Minutewomen ahead 1-0 in the third minute. Lamond received a ball played forward by Mia Carazza and sent her first touch towards goal with a right-footed strike from on top of the 18-yard box and into the right side of goal for her third of the season.
Lauren Robles extended the lead to two in the 79th-minute with her second goal of the season, a right-footed shot from around 12-yards out to the GW keeper's left and into the back of the net.
UMass posted a 16-11 shot advantage on the afternoon and put seven shots on target, including five in the final 45 minutes as the Minutewomen attempted 11 shots in the half. Karina Groff put one of her game-high five shots on goal while Chandler Pedolzky added four with a pair on frame.
The Minutewomen return home to Rudd Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff against VCU on Sunday for Senior Day.
