Filippo Begliardi Ghidini scored his third goal in as many games during a 1-0 win over Yale.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Filippo Begliardi Ghidini scored his third goal in as many games as he put home the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Yale on Tuesday evening. The game marked the fifth consecutive win on the road for the Minutemen (7-2-1 Overall), who are unbeaten on the road since Oct. 9, 2019.
Both teams got into the action early offensively before going stretches without any attempts at goal in the second half. Yale got two early shots in the first minute, putting one on target that was saved by Marvyn Dorchin for the Bulldogs only shot on target for the match.
UMass nearly broke into the scoring in the fifth minute after Ben Shepherd forced a Yale turnover to set up a shot that got over the keeper and hit the crossbar. The ball eventually found Ryan Kim in the same sequence for a long-range blast that forced a diving save out of Yale's Elian Haddock.
The Minuteman defense held the Bulldogs nearly 40 minutes of game time without a shot attempt before Yale got a pair of shot attempts off following back-to-back corner kicks in what would be their final shots of the evening.
Begliardi Ghidini put in his team-leading sixth goal of the season and second game-winning goal in the last three games in the 87th-minute. Logan Brown found Begliardi Ghidini on a run from the UMass defensive third, who took it to the end line before evading a defender and sliding a shot into goal.
The Minutemen resume Atlantic 10 play on Saturday at Dayton for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
