Women’s Soccer Opens A-10 Play With Overtime Win At Duquesne

September 19, 2021 | Women's Soccer

Chandler Pedolzky scored the game-tying goal in the 50th-minute before a Duquesne own goal in overtime.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 2-1 overtime win at Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen (5-2-2 Overall, 1-0-0 A-10) held the Dukes without a shot in overtime before a Duquesne own goal in the 100th-minute.

Duquesne went ahead 1-0 in the opening moments of the game with a third-minute goal scored by Emma Bundy. The Dukes first corner of the day was played into the box and eventually put into the back of the net following a battle for the ball in front of goal after the initial shot attempt.

Karina Groff created one of the best scoring opportunities in the first half for the Minutewomen, shaking her defender near the midfield to free up a run towards goal for a shot that went just left of target.

Chandler Pedolzky put the only shot on target in the first half for the Minutewomen and started off the second half by scoring her team-leading fourth goal in the 50th-minute. Groff found Pedolzky on a run, who navigated around the Duquesne keeper for a right-footed shot across goal to tie it up at 1-1.

Megan Olszewski helped keep the game-knotted at 1-1 in the 82nd-minute with a save on a shot low and to her right for her second save and final save of the afternoon. Duquesne attempted 10 shots on the game and put three on target while the Minutewomen put four of their 15 shots on target.

Ava Jouvenel nearly gave the Minutewomen a 90th-minute winner, firing a shot from range that crossed the goalline just after time ran out to send the game to overtime.

The own goal for Duquesne came in the 100th-minute on a ball played into the box by Mia Carazza and was headed into goal on an attempted clearance.

The Minutewomen return home to Rudd Field for their next two league games beginning with George Mason on Thursday at 3 p.m.
