Men’s Soccer Falls To Vermont, 1-0

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team fell to Vermont 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutemen (3-1-1 Overall) pushed forward offensively in the second half but could not come up with the equalizer.

Vermont outshot the Minutemen 18 to eight on the day but were held to just four shots in the second half by the UMass defense. The Catamounts broke through for the only goal of the afternoon in the 31st-minute with a goal by Noah Egan off an assist by Alex Nagy on the corner kick.

The Minutemen put three of their four second half shots on target as they pushed for the game-tying goal in the final 45 minutes of regulation. Joe Leslie nearly tied things up in the 88th-minute after he shook a defender and fired a low, driven shot towards the left post that was bobbled by Vermont's keeper and eventually secured.

Yosuke Hanya had a team-leading three shots on the afternoon, including one on target in the 74th-minute that was saved by Vermont's Nathan Silveira.

Marvyn Dorchin stopped seven shots in goal for the Minutemen, including five in the first half as the Catamounts attempted 14 shots with six on target.

UMass continues non-conference play on Wednesday as they host Dartmouth for a 4 p.m. kick at Rudd Field.
