Men’s Soccer Plays To 3-3 Draw On Road At #25 Virginia Tech

Filippo Begliardi Ghidini scored a pair of goals while Nathaniel Cardoza added one in the draw.
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Filippo Begliardi Ghidini scored two goals as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw in double overtime on the road at No. 25-ranked Virginia Tech on Saturday evening. The Minutemen finished the regular season with an 7-1-3 overall record.
Begliardi Ghidini broke open the scoring in the 8th-minute with his first goal of the evening coming off an assist from Graham Brenner.
Virginia Tech leveled the match in the 22nd-minute on a Nick Blacklock goal to send it to the half tied at 1-1 before the Hokies took a 2-1 lead in the 67th-minute on a goal from Birkir Eythorsson.
UMass responded with a pair of goals within three minutes of play, equalizing on Nathaniel Cardoza's second goal in as many games in the 70th-minute before Begliardi Ghidini added his second off an assist from Yosuke Hanya in the 73rd-minute.
The Hokies tied it up at 3-3 with a goal deflected in just over four minutes after the Minutemen took back the goal advantage.
The Minutemen allowed just one Virginia Tech shot in the first overtime period, coming in the first 64-seconds of play while Alec Hughes and Begliardi Ghidini each attempted shots towards goal in the first overtime. UMass sent two more shots towards goal in the second overtime period, including a Hanya shot in the 106th-minute that forced VT's Matt Zambetti into a save.
Marvyn Dorchin finished with nine saves in goal for the Minutemen while facing 25 Virginia Tech shots on the night. UMass put five of its 11 shots on target while the Hokies found the target on 12-of-25 shots.
