Minutemen Blank Third Straight Opponent, Beat UAlbany 3-0

Eli Cronin opened up the scoring in the first half while the Minutemen added two more goals in the final 45.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team shutout their third straight opponent to open up the 2021 campaign as they came away with a 3-0 win over UAlbany on Sunday afternoon. The Minutemen (3-0-0 Overall) put home two goals in the second half to pull away from the Great Danes.

Eli Cronin found the back of the net for his first goal of the season in the 30th-minute off a Ben Shepherd corner that was played in and headed on by Cronin into the right side of goal.

The Minutemen added two goals within a five-minute stretch in the second half as freshman Alec Hughes assisted on both goals. Hughes found Filippo Begliardi Ghidini in the 69th-minute to put UMass ahead 2-0 before connecting with Tyler Mann for the third and final goal of the evening in the 78th-minute.

The UMass defense picked up its third consecutive clean sheet, marking the second straight season that the Minutemen have opened the year with three shutouts in a row. UMass goalkeeper Marvyn Dorchin faced just two Great Dane shots on the night and came up with a stop on the only shot on target in the 39th-minute.
