Men’s Soccer Hosts Hofstra Tomorrow In Home Opener

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team opens up a five-game homestand tomorrow against Hofstra on ESPN+ at 5:30 p.m. The Minutemen also host UAlbany on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the bubble before opening up Atlantic 10 play on March 13 at home against Fordham.

The Week Ahead

UMass hosts Hofstra at McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Wednesday on ESPN+ before facing off against UAlbany Sunday afternoon in the bubble. Hofstra comes into tomorrow's matchup with a 1-1 record on the year after defeating Stony Brook 4-1 on Sunday. UAlbany is currently 0-1-1 and will open up America East on Friday against Hartford before heading to Amherst.

Last Time Out

The Minutemen started off the 2021 season the same way they did the 2019 campaign, with a shutout win on the road at Northeastern as the Minutemen came away with a 2-0 win last Wednesday. Ben Shepherd broke the scoreless tie in the 47th-minute, sending a right-footed shot into the left side of goal off an assist from Quinn Serafino and the setup pass from Jack Englebert. Filippo Begliardi Ghidini extended the lead to two goals in the 71st-minute from the spot after earning a penalty kick moments earlier. Marvyn Dorchin earned the shutout win in goal for UMass behind four saves on 12 total shots faced.

Fresh Faces

UMass started four new additions to the squad for the 2021 season in its season opener against Northeastern while two newcomers came off the bench. Shepherd, Begliardi Ghidini, Tommy Case and Alec Hughes each earned starting nods for the Minutemen while Englebert and Mike Willis logged minutes off the bench.
