AMHERST, Mass. – Looking to secure a bye into the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals for the first time since 2008, the Massachusetts men's basketball team wraps up the regular season on Monday night when the Minutemen take on Saint Louis at 6 p.m. (ET) on CBSSN.

A UMass win would …
• Give UMass a bye into the A-10 Quarterfinals for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

• Give UMass its third win of the season over an NCAA NET top-100 team.

• Give UMass four A-10 road wins in a season for the first time since 2014-15.

• Mark the Minutemen's first win at SLU since 2015.

Crunch time
With only one game remaining in the regular season, Massachusetts is currently third in the league standings based on winning percentage.

Seedings for the championship tournament will be as follows: teams above 60 percent of the median number of conference games played by all 14 teams will be seeded by conference winning percentage. Teams below that 60 percent threshold will be seeded using the NCAA NET ranking, relative to all A-10 teams.

UMass is in the hunt for a bye into the conference quarterfinals for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

Tre Ball
Tre Mitchell is averaging 18.9 points per game this year, good for 51st in the NCAA and third in the Atlantic 10. Mitchell is one of only 52 players in the country, and three players in the Atlantic 10, with two 30+ point games this season.

In just 41 career games, Mitchell is already tied for seventh in career 30+ point games in UMass history. Mitchell has also reached double-figures 38 times in his young career.

Stops and starts
The Dec. 11 game vs. Northeastern marked the latest that UMass has started a season since 1947-48, when the team's first game was on December 12, 1947. Tuesday's game at Richmond marked the fifth time this season that the Minutemen have gone at least one week between playing this season.

Among Division I teams still in-season, UMass is tied for the fifth fewest games played in the nation this season, and fewest among A-10 teams.

The series with Saint Louis
Overall, Saint Louis holds a 14-6 all-time record in the series against UMass, with the Minutemen in search of their first win at SLU since Jan. 31, 2015.

Last season in Amherst, UMass trailed by 10 points early in the second half, responding with a 58% shooting performance and 22 second half points from Tre Mitchell to fight back and knock off the Billikens at the Mullins Center, 67-63, to earn a split of the season series and pick up their first win against SLU since the 2014-15 season.

Streaking
Despite only having taken the floor a handful of times since Jan. 1, the Minutemen are winners of five of their last seven games. In those games, UMass is holding opponents to an average of 65.1 points per game and forcing them into 13.7 turnovers per game while five players are averaging better than 9.0 points per game on the offensive end of the floor.

Mitchell named to Malone Award Top Ten
Massachusetts men's basketball sophomore Tre Mitchell was named a Top 10 candidate for the 2021 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Jan. 28.

Despite a small sample size in 2020-21, Mitchell has proven to be one of the top players in the Atlantic 10 and the nation this season. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native is 47th in the NCAA and third in the Atlantic 10 averaging 18.9 points per game this season.

On the road again
The Minutemen are back on the road for the final game of the regular season, where they are 3-2 on the season. In those games, UMass is shooting 43% from the floor and averaging 73.0 points/game. Four players are averaging better than nine points per game on the road, with Tre Mitchell averaging 20.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg.

A win on Monday would give the Minutemen four conference road wins in a season for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Depth
In just 12 games this season, seven different Minutemen have either led the team or been tied for the team-high in scoring:

Tre Mitchell - Four games
Carl Pierre - Three games
Javohn Garcia - Two games
Ronnie DeGray III - One game
Dyondre Dominguez - One game
Cairo McCrory - One game
T.J. Weeks Jr. - One game
