Womenโs Basketball Launches Shooting Shirts Fundraiser
February 19, 2021 | Women's Basketball
A portion of proceeds generated will support the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke
AMHERST, Mass. โ University of Massachusetts women's basketball announced today the opportunity to purchase three versions of the pregame shooting shirts sported by the Minutewomen this season. Each item is inscribed with Black Lives Matter along the right sleeve and Say Their Names on the back, honoring Black lives taken by systematic racism and racial injustice.
ย
T-shirts are available for $22, long sleeves for $25 and crew sweatshirts $30 and are nearly identical to the shirts worn by the Minutewomen.ย Items can be purchased via Soundscape Merchandise, with aย portion of proceeds directly supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke.
ย
From concept through production, the shooting shirts initiative was entirely student-athlete driven and spearheaded by redshirt junior Desiree Oliver and junior Destiney Philoxy. The Minutewomen first donned the shirts during pregame of the matchup at La Salle on Sunday, Jan. 3.
ย
The initiative is taking place in conjunction with an Atlantic 10-wide social justice awareness campaign and partnership with the organization Athletes Driving Change. Founded by Dayton women's basketball student-athlete Araion Bradshaw, ADC promotes permanent change toward equality through the voices of Atlantic 10 female athletes using a unified and inclusive platform. UMass will highlight the partnership alongside its Feb. 26 game vs. VCU.
ย
All clothing orders must be placed before store closing on Sunday, March 7. Items will begin production once the store is closed and be shipped within two weeks of store closing. All orders will be shipped with a handwritten note of gratitude from the UMass women's basketball team.
ย
Questions about the ordering process can be directed to Director of Basketball Operations Brittany Famiglietti at famiglietti@umass.edu.
