Minutemen Shutout George Washington, Play To 0-0 Draw

The Minutemen put five of their 15 shot attempts on target.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team picked up their third shutout of the season as they played to a 0-0 draw against George Washington at Rudd Field Saturday afternoon. The Minutemen (7-3-2 Overall, 1-2-1 A-10) put five of their 15 shots on target while holding GW to nine shot attempts.
The Colonials put three of those shots on target, including one on target from Carter Humm that was saved over the bar by UMass keeper Marvyn Dorchin in the 13th-minute for one of his three saves on the afternoon.
UMass attempted just two shots in the first 45 before taking 10 in the second half. The Minutemen put four of those 10 second half shots on target, with Filippo Begliardi Ghidini getting one of the best looks of the afternoon for the UMass side. Begliardi Ghidini was played forward on a pass for a left-footed shot that was turned away on a diving save by GW keeper Justin Grady.
Begliardi Ghidini finished with two shots on target in his four attempts while Yosuke Hanya also put two of his four shots on frame. Hanya put the lone shot of the overtime periods on target for the Minutemen with a shot towards the bottom left of goal that was saved. Alec Hughes added four shots for the UMass offense with Tyler Mann adding a pair.
The Minutemen return to action on Saturday at Davidson for a 1 p.m. kick before returning home to Rudd Field for the Grassroots Charity Game against Rhode Island on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
