THE OPENING TIP: THE MASSACHUSETTS-DAVIDSON PREVIEW
• A busy week continues for UMass women's basketball as the Minutewomen look to get back in the win column on Fri., Jan. 8 against Davidson. Opening tip is at 5 p.m. inside the Mullins Center.
• Friday's tilt will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Jay Burnham (PxP) and Cam Sibert (color) on the call. Nick McGahan and Scott Wiktorowski will co-produce the broadcast.
• This is the third of four games for the Minutewomen in an eight-day span. The squad took a 78-61 decision at La Salle on Sun., Jan. 3, before a tough 48-47 loss to Rhode Island on Tues., Jan. 5. UMass closes out the stretch and a three-game home stand vs. Fordham on Sun., Jan. 10.
• The Minutewomen are aiming for their third straight win over Davidson and fifth in the last six meetings. Last season UMass claimed both ends of the home-and-home with the Wildcats, with a 70-62 road result and 61-48 triumph in Amherst.
• Junior Destiney Philoxy continues to position herself as one of the nation's leading ball distributors. Philoxy (7.9 apg) ranks second in Division I in assists per game and has contributed eight or more dimes in six games this season.
• Senior Sam Breen has recorded four straight double-doubles and was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Jan. 4. The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania product is posting 19.3 points and 9.3 boards per night, with her scoring output ranked third in the A-10. She had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the Rhode Island game on Jan. 5.
• Massachusetts also checked in at No. 62 in the NCAA's latest NET ranks, atop the A-10 and behind only UConn (2) and Boston College (48) among teams in New England.
