Breen recorded her third straight double-double in a Jan. 3 win at La Salle

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Massachusetts women's basketball senior forward Sam Breen has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office for the period ending Jan. 3.

En route to Massachusetts' win at La Salle on Sun., Jan. 3, Breen contributed her third straight double-double performance with 25 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs. Breen was 9-of-19 (47.4%) from the field and 6-of-8 (75%) from the free throw line at La Salle, aided in part by a standout performance from junior Destiney Philoxy (10 assists).

It was the fifth triumph in a row for the Minutewomen, who were coming off of a 21-day break between games.  On the season, Breen leads UMass both in scoring (20.4) and rebounding (9) average. The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania native is just short of the league lead in points per game and ranks fourth on the glass.

Massachusetts (6-1, 2-0 A-10) is back in action on Tues., Jan. 5, hosting conference rival Rhode Island in the Mullins Center. Opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
