Need to Knows
• It's the regular season finale and a Senior Day matinee on Saturday as Massachusetts hosts Atlantic 10 and cross-New England rival Rhode Island. Opening tip will be at noon inside the Mullins Center.
• Massachusetts is looking to bounce back from a tough loss to the Rams earlier this season. UMass erased a 15-point deficit and led late in regulation back on Jan. 19, but URI's Nicole Jorgensen converted an and-one in the waning seconds of the contest to steal a 69-66 result.
• The Minutewomen enter the final day of the season locked in a three-way tie for fifth place in the A-10. With a win Saturday and some help around the league, the Maroon and White can unofficially finish as high as fourth heading into next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament.
• UMass has clinched a home game in the A-10 First Round, marking the first time since 1998 A-10 Championship Game that the Mullins Center will play host to a tournament matchup. The league will announce seedings on Saturday night following the last regular season game.
• The Minutewomen are looking for their third straight win on the heels of a 51-47 triumph at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night. Despite a slow start for both teams, senior Vashnie Perry once again played catalyst for UMass with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Fourteen of Perry's 18 points came in the third quarter and she also grabbed five steals on the night. Junior Sam Breen had a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) and senior Hailey Leidel had 10 points.
• Breen entered the starting lineup on Jan. 29 vs. Richmond in a nationally-televised win and continues to make a splash. The Feb. 3 Atlantic 10 Player of the Week contributed at least 20 points in each of her first five starts, becoming the first Minutewoman since at least 1997-98 to accomplish such a feat.
• Leidel pulled even at No. 2 on the Massachusetts career scoring list at St. Joe's on Feb. 26. Now with 1,791 points, she is tied with Octavia Thomas (1992-96) and needs 67 points to tie Sue Peters' (1976-80) program record at 1,858 points. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 31 of her last 33 games dating back to Feb. 24, 2019.
• Freshman Maeve Donnelly's 71 blocked shots are third in the Atlantic 10, lead A-10 rookies and either tie or exceed four entire team totals in the league. Donnelly's 69th block of the season on Feb. 22 reset the Massachusetts program record, previously held by Maggie Mulligan (2017-18) and Kate Mills (2007-08).
