Men's Cross Country Victorious In 2019 Debut

Engstrom takes second to lead UMass to first of four teams at the Minuteman Invitational.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country was victorious in its 2019 debut, taking first out of four teams at its own Minuteman Invitational on Saturday morning at the UMass Cross Country Course. Placing all five of its scorers in the top 12, UMass posted a team total of 33 points, followed by Connecticut (35), WPI (64) and Sacred Heart (115).
Senior Erik Engstrom was the first to complete the 6K course for the Minutemen, taking second in 19 minutes, 24 seconds. Senior Dawson Bathgate claimed fifth in 19 minutes, 33 seconds, followed closely behind by graduate transfer Connor Ross in sixth in his UMass debut (19:38).
Senior Kendall Westhoff was the No. 4 runner for the Minutemen, placing eighth in 19 minutes 46 seconds and senior Michael McDonald rounded out the UMass scorers in 19 minutes, 56 seconds.
UMass will be back in action on Friday, September 20, when the squad will travel to Boston for the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown.
