Men’s Cross Country Places Fifth At A-10 Championships

Engstrom leads the way for the Minutemen, places 11th overall to garner all-conference recognition.
LEESBURG, Va. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country claimed fifth of 14 at the Atlantic 10 Championships in at Oatlands Plantation on Saturday morning. The Minutemen posted a score of 143 points, while La Salle took home the title (53 points) followed by Saint Joseph's (99), Fordham (104) and George Mason (124).
Senior captain Erik Engstrom was the top finisher in 11th overall, completing the five-mile course in 25 minutes, 36 seconds to garner Atlantic 10 All-Conference recognition. Senior Dawson Bathgate was the next Minuteman across, placing 19th in the field of 129 competitors at 26 minutes, 1.3 seconds.
UMass' No. 3 runner, sophomore Josh Rahn was 22nd, clocking in at 26 minutes, 5.3 seconds. Graduate student Connor Ross claimed 45th overall as the fourth scorer for the Minutemen and freshman Benjamin Burgess took 46th to round out the UMass top-five with times of 26 minutes, 32.5 seconds and 26 minutes 35.0 seconds, respectively.
The Minutemen will be back in action in two weeks when the squad travels to Buffalo, New York for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at 12 p.m. at Audubon Golf Course.
