Drummond Promoted To Women’s Lacrosse Associate Head Coach

August 26, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse

Jana Drummond earned the promotion after guiding the draw unit to a nation-best 19.11 controls per game in 2019.

AMHERST, Mass. University of Massachusetts Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Angela McMahon announced the promotion of Jana Drummond to associate head coach on Monday afternoon. Drummond steps into her new role on the staff after serving under McMahon for the last two years at UMass as an assistant coach.

"From day one, Jana just jumped in and been extremely hands on in developing our players," said McMahon. "She has the players' development and well-being in mind with everything she does. She pushes them to get the best out of them and to be the best versions of themselves. She's been extremely committed in representing the core values of our program and I think is what has led her to this promotion. Each year, she's helped our defense and our draw unit improve. She's proved to be an invaluable asset of our program and I'm extremely excited to promote her and it's well-earned and well deserved."

Under Drummond's watch, the UMass draw unit led the nation in draw controls per game with 19.11 last season while posting the sixth-best draw control percentage in the country at .616. Caitlyn Petro ranked 13th nationally in draw controls per contest with 6.80 while Kiley Anderson also ranked among the top-50 in the category as the Minutewomen claimed their ninth consecutive Atlantic 10 regular-season crown and second straight with Drummond on the staff.

"I would like to thank Angela McMahon, Ryan Bamford, and the athletic administration for the opportunity to be a part of such an exceptional program," said Drummond. "Along with them, I would like to thank the players and support staff of the women's lacrosse program for helping make the first two years an excellent experience where I have learned a lot. I look forward to all the lessons and experiences ahead."

Drummond arrived in Amherst after a four-year stint on the sidelines at Marist, where she helped guide the Red Foxes to its first-ever MAAC regular-season championship in 2014. As a player, Drummond was a three-year co-captain and three-time all-conference pick at Oregon, where she finished her career at the program's all-time leading scorer with 146 goals.
