Women’s Soccer Falls To UConn, 4-1, In Home Exhibition

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer erased an early 1-0 deficit, but UConn managed to score three times in the second half to defeat the Minutewomen in exhibition action at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies were on the board early as Duda Santin opened the scoring, knocking home a shot from the middle of the box that found the inside of the left post in the fifth minute.
In the 40th minute, Jenny Hipp came up with the equalizer for UMass, sending a long-range strike into the top left corner from 25 yards out off a feed from Lauren Bonavita.
However, UConn climbed back on top in the 56th minute when Santin converted a penalty for her second tally of the afternoon.
The Huskies added two more in the period, a goal from Kess Elmore in the 61st minute and the finally tally of the afternoon off the foot of Giavanna Delorenzo in the 86th minute.
UMass finished with a 12-10 edge in shots and led in corners, 4-0. Peyton Ryan had three saves for the Minutewomen, while goalkeepers Randi Palacios and Kelsey Kohler split time for UConn and had two and one stops, respectively.
UMass will open its regular season slate this Thursday, August 22, against Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at 7 p.m.
