Former two-time All-American returns to alma mater following two-year stint at Northwestern.

AMHERST, Mass. – Following a two-year stint at Northwestern, former two-time IWLCA All-American Hannah Murphy returns to her alma mater as an assistant coach announced today by head coach Angela McMahon. The 2017 Massachusetts graduate will take over for Zoe Ochoa who moves on to pursue other career opportunities.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Hannah back to Amherst," said head coach Angela McMahon. "Her character, competitive desire and passion for UMass are all characteristics that will help our team tremendously. I'm grateful for what Zoe brought to our program over the last two years and wish her all the best as she moves on to what will be undoubtedly another successful chapter in her life."

At Northwestern, Murphy worked with one of the top coaching staffs in the NCAA that included UMass alumni Tim McCormack and Scott Hiller as well as nationally renowned head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. The Wildcats reached the 2018 NCAA Quarterfinals in her first season and the NCAA Semifinals this past spring.

Her primary responsibility was working with the draw unit which ranked fifth nationally in draws per game. The group was highlighted by Brennan Dwyer who ranked fifth nationally with 181 draws.

During her career at Massachusetts, the native of Duxbury, Mass., led the nation in draw controls during her senior campaign with 212 in 2017 – a total that stands as the UMass single-season record, an Atlantic 10 record and the third-most in NCAA history. She also ranks third in NCAA history for career draw controls (522) which also is a program record. Murphy was a three-time IWLCA All-Region honoree and named the A-10 Midfielder of the Year for three consecutive years. In her time on campus, UMass won four straight Atlantic 10 championships and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2016. She was an All-America selection as a junior in 2016 and again as a senior in 2017.

Murphy earned her degree in communications in 2017.
