Hey Oh, Shapiro
Redshirt freshman Collin Shapiro has reached base safely in all nine games for the Minutemen this season, hitting .250 with a triple and five RBI. Accomplishing that feat in his first season of Division I competition, Shapiro is the first Minuteman to do so since Lou Proietti reached in Proietti's first 11 contests at UMass back in the 2006 campaign.

Nine is Fine
Every player in the Massachusetts lineup, one through nine, contributed at least one hit in the Sun., March 10 win at UT Rio Grande Valley by a 14-11 score. As a team, the Maroon and White tallied a season-best 13 hits with four Minutemen contributing two apiece in senior Logan Greene, junior Nolan Kessinger, redshirt freshman Collin Shapiro and redshirt sophomore Anthony Videtto. Despite finishing just 1-for-6 on the day, redshirt sophomore Connor Smith sparked the squad early with his first career grand slam, which gave the ball club an early 4-0 lead.

Lasko Tabbed Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week
For his efforts at Navy on Sat., March 2, Lasko was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week. The right-hander scattered five hits and struck out eight Midshipmen, three short of a career-high and lowering his ERA to 0.61. His outing capped a terrific doubleheader on the part of the UMass pitching staff, as Minuteman arms worked a total of 20 innings without surrendering a run.

Remembering Dick Bergquist
Legendary former UMass baseball head coach Dick Bergquist passed away on Feb. 24 at the age of 86. Bergquist, at the helm of the program from 1967-87, led his ball clubs to 392 victories, seven Yankee Conference championships, two New England championships, one Atlantic 10 Conference championship and a fifth-place finish at the 1969 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Josh Walfish of the Daily Hampshire Gazette as well as Matt Vautour of MassLive chronicled the life and countless achievements of Bergquist in recent stories, which can be read here (Walfish) and here (Vautour).

On Deck
After this weekend's series, the Minutemen head back to New England and turn their attention to a Tues., March 19 game at Holy Cross with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
