The Opening Tip
• University of Massachusetts women's basketball treks down the Massachusetts Turnpike for a Wed., Dec. 11 game at Boston University's Case Gymnasium. Opening tip is slated for 11 a.m. on the Patriot League Network.
• The Minutewomen are in search of their fourth straight win, on the heels of a thrilling 75-72 triumph over Holy Cross on Sun., Dec. 8. UMass, which trailed for a majority of the first half and into the third quarter, received a career-high 20-point performance from senior Vashnie Perry to lead four double-digit scorers. Perry keyed an 11-0 run in the third quarter in which UMass reclaimed the lead and never looked back.
• Freshman Maeve Donnelly set a single-game program record with 10 blocks in the Holy Cross game. It surpassed the previous mark of eight in a single contest, which had been matched three times, most recently on Jan. 20, 2010. It was also tied for the most by a rookie in a Division I game this season.
• Donnelly also pulled down 12 rebounds for her first career double-double and was just three points short (7) of what would have been the first triple-double at UMass since Nov. 17, 2000.
• In the seven games since UMass fell to Providence on Nov. 9, the squad is averaging over 77 points per game with a +17.6 scoring margin. Senior Hailey Leidel leads the attack averaging 18.7 points in that span while both Donnelly (6.9 reb/gm) and fellow freshman Angelique Ngalakulondi (6 reb/gm) have sparked the group on the glass.
• Leidel (1,502 points) holds sole possession of fifth place on the UMass all-time scoring list, needing 23 points to tie Kate Mills (2004-08) at No. 4 with 1,525 in her career. Leidel is also one of 17 players in program history with at least 1,000 points plus 500 rebounds. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 14 straight games since Feb. 24, and 31 of her last 32 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.
• Following Wednesday's game, the Minutewomen will turn their focus to a Sun., Dec. 15 game vs. Siena at the Mullins Center. That matchup is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
