Need to Knows
• University of Massachusetts women's basketball treks up Interstate 89 to Burlington, Vermont for a Friday night matchup with the Catamounts at Patrick Gymnasium. Game time on ESPN3 is set for 7 p.m. with Jamie Scavatto (PxP) and Bernie Cieplicki (color) behind the microphone.
• The Minutewomen are looking to bounce back from a Mon., Nov. 25 loss at St. John's by an 82-71 score, despite a valiant comeback effort that saw a 16-point fourth quarter deficit cut down to as little as four. Four Minutewomen finished in double-figure scoring and junior Bre Hampton-Bey came off the bench to contribute a season-high 16 points.
• The St. John's result ended a three-game winning streak for the Minutewomen, which came on triumphs over UMass Lowell (Nov. 14, 74-58), Hartford (Nov. 17, 74-48) and Brown (Nov. 21, 95-42).
• Vermont has taken the last two meetings of these sides, last at the Mullins Center (Dec. 9, 2009) and once in Burlington (Nov. 14, 2008). A UMass win Friday night would be the first over the Catamounts since Nov. 9, 2007.
• This is head coach Tory Verdi's second matchup at UVM, as Verdi was on Nebraska's staff as an assistant when the Huskers defeated the eventual America East champions, 94-50, on Jan. 4, 2010 at Patrick Gymnasium. That year, Nebraska went on to finish 32-2 and reach the Sweet 16.
• UMass' 25 assists vs. Brown (on 30 made baskets) were three short of tying a Division I program record, set in December 2004 vs. Toledo. Nine different players had a dime, with Hampton-Bey checking in at a team-high seven on the night.
• Senior Hailey Leidel (1,437 points) now holds sole possession of eighth place on the UMass all-time scoring list and needs 29 points to tie Pam Rosanio (2004-08) for seventh with 1,466. She is also one of 17 players in program history with at least 1,000 points plus 500 rebounds.
• Leidel, a three-year captain, has made at least one three-point field goal in 11 straight games since Feb. 24, and 28 of her last 29 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.

Hard fought game tonight on the road against a very good St John's team! Will learn from this but it was a tournament game in November!
