The Pregame Shootaround
On the heels of a Nov. 14 win at sister campus UMass Lowell, University of Massachusetts women's basketball returns to the Mullins Center on Nov. 17 for another America East tilt, hosting Hartford for a 2 p.m. game on Jack Leaman Court. Colin Cronin and Ryan Beaton will have the call on ESPN+ with 91.1 FM WMUA carrying the matchup on the radio.
The Need to Knows
• The Minutewomen are looking for back-to-back wins as well as their first of the season on the home hardwood. Three players finished in double-figure scoring in Thursday night's win over the River Hawks (74-58), which saw UMass shoot 50 percent from the field including 60 percent in the first quarter.
• Senior Hailey Leidel put down a season-high 20 points to lead all scorers, including a 6-of-9 clip from beyond the three-point line. Classmate Vashnie Perry had 14 points and a career-high seven assists, while sophomore Destiney Philoxy rounded out the double-figure performers with 13 points, plus five dimes and four steals.
• Leidel (1,391 points) now holds sole possession of 10th place on the UMass all-time scoring list and needs 14 points to tie Crystal Carroll (1993-97) for ninth with 1,405. She is also one of 17 players in program history with at least 1,000 points plus 500 rebounds.
• Those familiar with UMass women's basketball history will recognize a familiar face on the visiting bench, as first-year Hartford head coach Morgan Valley was an assistant with the Minutewomen from 2010-14. Valley was instrumental in the development of Jasmine Watson, whose name is scattered across the UMass record book.
• Massachusetts wraps up a quick two-game homestand on Nov. 21, welcoming Ivy League foe Brown to the Mullins Center for a 7 p.m. game.
