Women’s Swimming And Diving Opens Campaign With 221-84 Win At Colgate

The Minutewomen had six athletes claim multiple event wins in the season opener.


HAMILTON, N.Y. The University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team had six athletes finish with multiple individual event wins as the Minutewomen opened up their 2019-20 campaign with a 221-84 win over Colgate at the Lineberry Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
 
Mariam Labib grabbed her first of two wins on the day in the 200 Free, posting a time of 1:56.79 to lead a trio of Minutewomen with Bella Snyder and Emily Rudiman finishing in second and third. Labib went on to post a winning time of 24.47 in the 50 Free while Chelsea Meiring and Kirsten Ardis finished in a tie for second with swims of 25.00.
 
Meiring went on to win the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:07.30 followed by top-three finishes from Mia Flagiello and Olivia Mozoki.
 
Snyder added a pair of wins of her own in the distance events, taking first with a mark of 17:51.59 to lead a UMass sweep of the top-three spots in the 1,650 Free before going on to win the 500 Free later in the day.
 
Fellow freshman Jane Denenberg opened up her afternoon with one of her two runner-up finishes as teammate Kelly Malyszka took in the 400 IM first before Denenberg went on to win her first collegiate event in the 200 Fly with a swim of 2:09.82. Denenberg followed up that performance with another top-time in the 100 Fly, clocking in a swim of 59.44 to lead all swimmers while Stephanie Judge came in second with a swim of 59.48.
 
Another freshman in Mozoki won a pair of events, picking up her first win with a time of 2:26.34 in the 200 Breaststroke before posting the top-time in the 200 IM to close out her day.
 
Sydnee Aubin picked up a pair of individual wins of her own, clocking in a swim of 1:00.74 in the 100 Back with Ardis finishing as the runner-up before Aubin went on to win the 200 Back with a mark of 2:10.90 while Denenberg rounded out the top-three finishers.
 
Maja Boric led the way for the UMass divers on the day, taking first in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 266.62 before going on to claim the top spot in the 3-Meter Dive.
 
The Minutewomen added a sweep of the top-four spots in the 100 Free, led by Emily Rudiman's time of 58.78 followed by Labib in second, Kelsey Cordery in third and Ardis in fourth.
 
UMass returns to the pool on Friday when they head out on the road to take on Army West Point before heading to Fairfield on Saturday.
