NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country raced at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, placing 15th of 20 teams in the gold division with a score of 331. Senior captain Erik Engstrom landed inside the top-20, taking 19th of 161 competitors in the five-mile run at 24:54.66
Senior Dawson Bathgate was next to cross the finish for the Minutemen, placing 47th in 25:19.15, while freshman Benjamin Burgess was UMass' No. 3 finisher in 85th with a time of 25:48.74. Senior Kendall Westhoff took 90th at 25 minutes 53.89 seconds and graduate student Connor Ross rounded out the top-five for the Minutemen in 101st with a time of 26 minutes, 3.60 seconds.
UMass will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 12, when the squad returns to Franklin Park for the second time this season to compete in the New England Championships at 12:30 p.m.
