Labeck Scores Twice As Minutemen Down La Salle On The Road, 3-2
October 26, 2019 | Men's Soccer
Christian Labeck converted on a penalty in the 54th-minute to put UMass ahead before his second in the 68th-minute.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Christian Labeck found the back of the net twice in the final 45 minutes as UMass came away with a 3-2 win over La Salle in Atlantic 10 action on the road Saturday night. The win marks the second consecutive road win for the Minutemen after defeating Duquesne away from home a week ago.
Labeck's first goal of the year came from the spot in the 54th-minute after some discussion on a foul near the 18-yard box led to UMass being awarded a penalty. The senior put the goal into the left side of goal to give UMass a one goal lead after an early 1-0 advantage was cancelled out in the 41st-minute on a goal from La Salle's Ike Hollinger.
Quinn Serafino's second goal of the year came early in the contest as the freshman took advantage of an Explorer defensive miscue to capitalize for the game's opening goal in the 6th-minute.
Labeck netted his second of the night on a shot from 20-plus yards out as he made a run down the left side and was found by Evan Fournier. Labeck bent his shot around a defender and into the right side of goal in the 68th-minute to stretch the UMass advantage to two goals.
The Explorers trimmed the UMass lead back down to a goal as Nigel Buckley scored in the 78th-minute for a La Salle squad that finished the night with 17 shots and six on target. UMass ended the night with 11 shot attempts, including seven on goal led by four from Labeck.
Marvyn Dorchin recorded all four of his saves in the opening 45 minutes of play, recording his fourth save in the 32nd-minute after a La Salle counterattack following a solid opportunity at goal moments early down at the other end from Serafino.
The Minutemen return home for the regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 2 as they host Saint Joseph's on Rudd Field at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
