Men’s Cross Country Nabs Eighth At Princeton Invitational

Engstrom and Bathgate finish inside the top-25 individuals for the Minutemen.

PRINCETON, N.J. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country had its top two scorers finish inside the top-25, helping the squad to an eighth-place team finish out of 24 teams at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday. The Minutemen posted a score of 255, while Stony Brook took home the win with 55 points, followed by UConn (120), La Salle (133), Boston University (142), Fordham (151), Penn (170) and Alabama (222).
 
Senior captain Erik Engstrom was the No. 1 finisher for UMass, completing the 8K in 24 minutes, 28.7 seconds to claim 17th in a field of 240 competitors. Classmate Dawson Bathgate was next to cross the finish, taking 25th at 24 minutes, 39.8 seconds.
 
Graduate Student Connor Ross placed 41st with a time of 24 minutes, 59.4 seconds, while freshmen Benjamin Burgess and Nathan Johnson rounded out the top-five for the Minutemen in 93rd (25:28.0) and 108th (25:38.9), respectively.
 
UMass will return to action next Friday, Oct. 25, when the squad will head to the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Connecticut. Race time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
