Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short At Home Against Fordham

UMass earned five corner kicks down the stretch but could not come up with the equalizer in a 1-0 loss.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team came up short to league opponent Fordham on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 1-0 contest to the Rams at Rudd Field. The Minutemen out-shot the Rams six to four in the second half after attempting just one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
The Rams put in the only goal of the day in the 12th-minute, capitalizing on a free kick opportunity from 25-yards out on a shot that was bent into the right side of goal by Fordham's Sameer Fathazada. Fordham finished the half with five shots and ended the contest with nine attempts.
Graham Brenner attempted the only shot of the first half for UMass, putting his head on one off a long Ryan Saul throw-in for a shot that was saved by Fordham's Konstantin Weis. The defender finished the game with a team-high three shots.
Harrison Tognela added a shot on goal for the Minutemen as they made their late push down the stretch, attempting a shot from the right side that was saved away in the 71st-minute. UMass also earned five corner kicks down the stretch in the final 30 minutes as they wrapped up the day with eight to Fordham's three.
The Minutemen will break from league play on Tuesday when they play host to Yale at 3 p.m. at Rudd Field before resuming Atlantic 10 play on Saturday at Duquesne.
