Men’s Cross Country Places Third At New England Championships

Bathgate and Engstrom both land inside the top-10 overall.

 JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country landed two runners in the top-10 overall and claimed third as a squad at the New England Championships at Franklin Park on Saturday. The Minutemen posted a team score of 168, while Providence won the meet with a score of 42.
 
Senior Dawson Bathgate took eighth overall, completing the 8K race in 24 minutes, 59 seconds, while classmate Erik Engstrom was close behind in 10th at 25:04.
 
UMass' No. 3 runner, graduate student Connor Ross, claimed 37th, clocking in at 25 minutes, 53 seconds, while freshman Benjamin Burgess was fourth for the Minutemen and 44th overall in 25 minutes, 56 seconds.
 
Rounding out UMass' top-five, freshman Nathan Johnson was 69th, completing the course in 26 minutes, 19 seconds.
 
The Minutemen will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 19, when the squad will head down to New Jersey for the Princeton XC Invitational.
