UMass Sweeps Podium In 200 Free, 100 Breast On Saturday At Dartmouth

The Minutemen claimed the top-three spots in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke on Saturday.

HANOVER, N.H. – The Minutemen swept the podium in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke at the Ramsden Invitational on Saturday at Dartmouth. Freshman Dias Konysbayev led the first sweep of the day in the second race of the afternoon, winning the 200 Free with a swim of 1:45.10 with Harry Ortof and Panagiotis Androulidakis in second and third, respectively as UMass placed five swimmers in the top-six.
 
UMass picked up its second podium sweep in the race immediately following the 200 Free, the 100 Breaststroke. Al Madden's winning time of 59.07 led the way for the Minutemen while Owen Churcwell and Luther Gordon rounded out the top-three finishers with Ben Gryski in fifth.
 
Gordon and Gryski went on to add top-three finishes in the 200 Breaststroke near the end of the day, led by Gordon's first-place swim of 2:09.21 with Gryski not far behind in third with a mark of 2:09.61.
 
Kyle Stefanides set the pace in the 100 Backstroke as the senior clocked in a top time of 51.40 to lead a one-two UMass finish with Kellen Gray in second. Both Stefanides and Gray helped UMass to a relay win in the 200 Medley Relay, combining with Madden and Ryan Pedrick for a time of 1:35.55. Individually, Pedrick added a third-place showing in the 100 Free with a time of 47.61.
 
Seamus Trzewik-Quinn recorded a runner-up finish in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:52.38 while Sanjay Sekar finished in fourth.
 
Jason Rosen opened up the day for the Minutemen with a third-place showing in the 100 Butterfly with Casey Ransford finishing fifth before Ransford rounded out the meet with a time of 1:55.28 to finish third in the 200 Butterfly.
 
Harry Ortof led the way in the distance swim, the 1,650 Freestyle, with a time of 16:20.04 to lead all Minutemen while Eric Pauls finished behind in fourth with a time of 17:10.32.
 
UMass returns to the pool next weekend for an Atlantic 10 meet against Fordham on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Bronx, N.Y.
