September 30, 2018 | Women's Soccer
UMass remained perfect in Atlantic 10 play with a win over the defending league champions.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Jenna Thomas scored a pair of goals while Jenny Hipp added the first of the game as the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team defeated La Salle 3-1 on the road for their eighth straight win. The Minutewomen (9-2-0 Overall, 4-0-0 Atlantic 10) outshot the defending league champions as they broke through for the opening goal with their second shot on target in the 21st-minute.
Hipp's fifth goal of the season gave UMass a 1-0 lead less than halfway through the first as the sophomore found the back of the net from the left side off a pass into the box by Sarah Beaulieu.
The Minutewomen earned five corner kicks compared to none for the Explorers (6-4-1 Overall, 1-3-0 A-10), turning their second corner into their second goal just past the 36th-minute mark. Thomas' second goal of the season came off a header on a Signe Schioldan corner.
La Salle cut the lead back down to one goal moments later with one of their three shots on target as Camaren Cox scored goal from the left side in the 37th-minute.
It took just over a minute into the second half for the Minutewomen to extend their advantage back to two goals on Thomas' second of the afternoon on a Sini Laaksonen assist from 20-yards out that found the redshirt junior for a header into the back of the net.
On the day, UMass put 67-percent (10-of-15) of their shot attempts on target to force La Salle into seven saves as the Minutewomen scored three or more goals for the fifth time this season.
The Minutewomen will take their perfect league record on the road to Fordham on Thursday for a 7 p.m. matchup at Coffey Field before returning home to Rudd Field to host George Mason on Sunday afternoon.
