Minutemen Score Three Late Goals In Shutout Of Bryant

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team got a pair of goals from DeAndrae Brown and one from James McPherson as the Minutemen turned up the pressure late on their way to a 3-0 win over Bryant on a hot Monday afternoon at Rudd Field. UMass (2-1-1) attempted just 10 shots on the match with all three on target attempts finding the back of the net.

Brown's first goal of the afternoon broke a 0-0 tie in the 75th-minute off a Trey Miller punt from the UMass defensive end. McPherson headed the long pass from Miller forward for his first assist, finding the feet of Brown who put a shot past the attacking Bryant keeper.

McPherson went on to score a goal of his own less than four minutes later, grabbing his first collegiate goal by beating a pair of Bulldog defenders to the center of the 18-yard box line before sending the shot on the ground past the goalkeeper into the middle of the net.

UMass sealed the win with their third goal in a seven-minute span in an almost identical goal to Brown's first. McPherson flicked a headed pass forward to Brown, who took it down the left side of the field to once again beat the charging goalkeeper for his second of the game and third of the season. The forward looked to add another one for the late hat trick, sending a shot off the post before taking another one that was saved moments later.

Defensively, UMass held Bryant to just six shots total and only one on target that was saved by Miller at the right post.

The Minutemen will hit the road for another non-conference matchup as they head to Boston, Mass. to take on Boston University on Friday at 7 p.m. before returning home to face ACC opponent Clemson on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
