Bathgate leads the Minutemen for a second time this season, taking 82nd overall.
BOSTON – University of Massachusetts men's cross country squared off against talented teams from across the country on Friday afternoon when the squad took to the course at Franklin Park for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. The Minutemen placed 18th in the team standings out of 21 schools with 458 points.
For a seconds straight meet, junior Dawson Bathgate was the team's top finisher, placing 82nd in a field of 215 competitors with a time of 25 minutes, 38 seconds. Senior Michael Famiglietti crossed the finish second for UMass and 86th overall at 25 minutes, 42 seconds.
Junior Erik Engstrom was the third Minuteman to complete the 8K course, clocking in at 25 minutes, 43 seconds, good for 91st. Classmate Kendall Westhoff was UMass' No. 4 runner in 109th place at 25:52. Freshman Joshua Rahn scored for the first time in his collegiate career, taking fifth on the squad and 122nd overall with a time of 25 minutes, 58 seconds.
The Minutemen return to Franklin Park for their next meet, the New England Championships, which will be held on Saturday, October 6, at 11 a.m.
