McPherson Named Atlantic 10 Rookie Of The Week

James McPherson earned the honor for the first time after recording first career goal and assist.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer forward James McPherson scored a goal and added a pair of assists last week to earn him his first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

McPherson (Danvers, Mass.) put together a four-point game in a Labor Day matchup against Bryant at Rudd Field, assisting on the opening goal in the 75th-minute to record his first collegiate assist before going on to put home his first career goal under four minutes later. The forward helped seal a 3-0 shutout win over Bryant with his second assist of the afternoon, a headed pass forward to put the game away. In a 0-0 draw against Clemson on Sunday, McPherson created a late opportunity in regulation with a dribble move past a pair of defenders before attempting a shot on net that was saved away.

The Minutemen will be back in action for two contests this week as they head to Hartford, Conn. to take on Hartford in a 7 p.m. matchup on Wednesday before returning back to Rudd Field to face Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon.
