AMHERST, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts mens soccer program (2-3-1) to the University of New Hampshire (4-1-1), 1-0, on Saturday afternoon on Rudd Field. Despite recording more total shots (12-8), timely blocks and a second-chance goal proved to be all the Wildcats needed.

Linden recorded four saves on the contest, bringing his season total to 28 with a 73.7 save percentage. New Hampshire goalkeeper Aaron Choi earned a clean sheet with five saves of his own.

David Street led the charge for the UMass offense, recording three shots with one on goal.

Breaking Down the Action

New Hampshire was awarded a corner kick in the ninth minute, resulting in a header attempt but the shot was sent back by Rian Mulherin to hold off the Wildcats attack.
Samuel Theiss recorded the first shot of the contest, jetting through the Wildcats defense but his strike found the waiting hands of goalkeeper Choi in the 11th minute.
In the 28th minute a bicycle kick try by Jordan Blunschi caught his right hand, nulling the attempt and keeping the contest scoreless.
Linden recorded his first save of the contest in the 29th minute in the middle of the net.
Massachusetts fired consecutive shots in the 37th and 39th, with both attempts resulting in Wildcat blocks. Blunschi and Hutchinson each had headers that got by Choi, only to be rejected by UNH defenders.
Massachusetts opened the second half with two quick shots in the 47th and 49th minute, with a David Street attempt sailing over the net and a Shun Murasawa strike finding the awaiting hands of the keeper.
An extra pass by Murasawa to a cutting Mulherin was narrowly picked off by a UNH defender, sending the ball to the sideline. On the ensuing throw in the ball found its way to Street, whose left footed rocket missed the left post by mere inches.
A free-kick attempt in the offensive zone for Massachusetts resulted in a header attempt by freshman Garrison Murphy, the missed right of the net in the 64th minute.
Following a VAR in the 68th minute, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick. Despite Linden making an impressive save on the attempt, New Hampshire's Lukas Kuca headed in the ricochet to give UNH a 1-0 lead.
Each team picked up a yellow card in the 72nd minute.
Linden stopped a one-on-one fast break, recording his third save on the contest in the 83rd minute.
Massachusetts recorded two shots on goal in the 88th minute, but both were saved to keep UMass off the board.
