George Sparks Minutewomen Past BU
Senior co-captain Jessica George was instrumental out of the gate in UMass' 66-55 win over Boston University on Wed., Dec. 12. The Waldorf, Maryland native shot 7-of-14 to finish with 18 points, including 12 from three-point land, while also contributing three boards, two assists and a steal. George's 14 points in the first quarter marked the second time this season that a Minutewoman has accomplished such a feat, as fellow captain Hailey Leidel matched that total in the fourth quarter of the win against UT Rio Grande Valley on Tues., Nov. 20 at the Mullins Center.

Minutewomen Visit Special Olympics Basketball Tournament
On Dec. 5, members of the UMass women's basketball team spent a portion of their Sunday giving back to the local community, volunteering at a 3-on-3 basketball tournament with members of the UMass Special Olympics chapter. Various Minutewomen, along with other UMass student-athletes, pitched in to officiate, play and provide basketball instruction to the Special Olympics participants throughout the two-hour event.

Massachusetts continues to rank among the Atlantic 10's best in the total assists (148, first) category as well as per-game (13.5, fourth) dimes. Individually, sophomore Bre Hampton-Bey has dished out a conference-best 43 dimes on the season and sits third in the league with 3.9 per game.

Getting Right to the Point
Hampton-Bey has picked up right where she left off at point guard as a freshman. Now 11 games into this year, the Toledo, Ohio native is second among the Minutewomen in scoring (12.8 ppg) and has posted double-figure points in all but three contests. The 5-foot-6 Hampton-Bey has proved key on the glass as well averaging nearly six boards a night, also contributing just under four assists per game.

Home Cookin' (We recommend the clam chowdah)
Massachusetts has won seven of its last nine contests played within the confines of the Mullins Center, including five in a row before the North Dakota setback on Wed., Nov. 28. "The Bill" has generally been kind to the Maroon and White recently as the squad boasts a winning record on the home hardwood in each season dating back to 2014-15.

'90s on 9
Helped in part by a 55.9 percent (38-of-68) showing from the field and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) clip from three-point land, UMass never trailed and picked up a convincing 90-61 win over Brown on Sat., Nov. 24. The last time the Minutewomen put up at least 90 points against a Division I foe was on Jan. 22, 2008 in the squad's non-conference finale, a 91-57 rout of Yale in Amherst at the Mullins Center.

1K Magic
Averaging 15.3 points throughout her time in Amherst, junior Hailey Leidel became the 20th 1,000-point scorer in UMass history against Bucknell on Fri., Nov. 23, and the first since Kim Pierre-Louis tallied 1,099 from 2011-15.

Just 70 games into her career, Leidel has also emerged as one of the top three-point threats all-time at UMass. After setting the single season record for makes (83) in 2017-18, she is now third in the same category for an entire career (180). Former Minutewoman Katie Nelson (2001-06) holds the record with 191 triples.

Verdi Reaches 100 Career Wins
Massachusetts head coach Tory Verdi logged his 100th career victory at the collegiate level against Central Connecticut on Nov. 17 at the Mullins Center. Prior to arriving in the Pioneer Valley ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, Verdi earned 72 triumphs at the helm of Eastern Michigan (2012-16) and three as interim head coach at Columbia (2004-05).

Introducing...the Fantastic Five
The Minutewomen have welcomed five freshmen to Amherst in 2018-19, with the group collectively regarded by multiple outside groups as one of the top incoming classes in UMass history. Alexa Kellner (Stamford, Conn.), Madison Lowery (Virginia Beach, Va.), Asia McCoy (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Jessica Nelson (Buford, Ga.) and Destiney Philoxy (Queens, N.Y.) compose the class, which was ranked No. 57 nationally by Blue Star Basketball and No. 62 in the country by PASS.
