Women’s Soccer Falls In Regular Season Home Finale To Saint Louis

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team fell to Saint Louis 3-0 on a windy Thursday afternoon in their regular-season home finale on Rudd Field. The Minutewomen (10-5-1 Overall, 5-3-1 Atlantic 10) will face off against Dayton on the road Sunday before starting A-10 Championship quarterfinal play on either Oct. 27 or 28.

Saint Louis (14-3-1 Overall, 9-0-0 Atlantic 10) attempted nine of their 12 total shots on the game in the first half as the UMass defense had a heavy wind coming at their goal in the first 45 minutes. The Billikens broke through for their first goal in the 13th-minute on one of their seven corner kicks as Olivia Petit found the back of the net on a header.

The Minutewomen offense put five of their six second half shots on net as they played with the wind for the final half. Julia Taffuri and Sini Laaksonen each attempted a pair of shots for UMass as Taffuri put a shot on target in the 47th-minute that was saved shortly after the Billikens extended their lead to two goals two minutes into the second half. Both of Laaksonen's shots were sent on target by the junior, including shots in the 77th and 87th-minutes of the contest.

The Billikens added a late goal to bring the final score to 3-0 as Maddie Pokorny found the back of the net at the 86:22 mark.

UMass returns to the field for their final regular-season contest on Sunday when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Flyers at 1 p.m.
