Last Time Out
Despite falling 1-0 to VCU on Senior Day last Sunday, the Minutewomen were able to secure a spot in the eight-team field of the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship tournament. That marks the first time UMass has qualified for the postseason tourney since 2014. Prior to Sunday's tough loss, the Minutewomen earned a 2-1 road win at Davidson in a game that was pushed back a day due to weather from Hurricane Michael which tracked up from Florida. Jenny Hipp scored in the first minute of play, while Lauren Bonavita scored with less than a minute left in regulation to give the Minutewomen their 10th win of the season.
Best Win Streak Since 1997
The eight-match win streak earlier this year matched the longest since the 1997 squad did the same. The 4-0 start to A-10 play was also the best since that season which saw the Minutewomen post a perfect 11-0 record in league play. UMass' win streak was the fourth longest in the country until the draw at Fordham.
Leading The A-10 And The NCAA
Through 15 matches, UMass is putting up prolific numbers this year. As a team, UMass leads the A-10 in eight different statistical categories including scoring offense (2.27 goals/game) which also ranks 23rd nationally. The Minutewomen rank second in the league in goals-against-average which is 25th in the NCAA (0.59 GAA). Nationally, UMass is eighth in total points (110), 21st in total goals (34) and fourth in total assists (42). Individually, Peyton Ryan ranks second in the league in GAA (0.62), which is 34th nationally and leads the A-10 in save percentage (0.83). Erin Doster leads the A-10 in total assists, while Lauren Bonavita (18) is seventh in total points followed by Jenny Hipp who is eighth (17).
Next Up
Following the trip to Dayton, the seedings for the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament will be announced. If the Minutewomen finish in the top-four of the regular-season standings, UMass would host a quarterfinal game at Rudd Field on Oct. 27 or Oct. 28. If UMass is in the bottom-four of the eight teams, they will play on the road for the quarterfinal round. The A-10 Semifinals and Championship matches will all be hosted by Dayton on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4, respectively.
