No. 24 UNH Takes 3-0 Decision Over Men's Soccer

DURHAM, N.H. - A pair of goals in the final six minutes of play sealed a 3-0 win for No. 24 New Hampshire over the visiting UMass men's soccer team in a match that was closer than the score indicated on Tuesday night at Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the fourth minute of play as the two sides battled for control over the next 80 minutes until UNH pulled away late.

The loss was the first for UMass which drops to 2-1-1 overall, while the nationally-ranked Wildcats improve to 4-0-0 with four straight shutouts.

Overall in the match, UNH held a slight 12-to-8 edge in shots and a 6-to-3 advantage in corner kicks. UMass keeper Bardia Asefnia made six saves on the night, while his UNH counterpart Andrew Pesci made five.

Linus Fallberg opened the scoring at the 3:28 mark of the first half as he snuck a shot inside the left post from 10-yards out. The Minutemen were able to tally five more shots in the half with Pesci making saves on four of them preserving the 1-0 lead at halftime.

UMass had a pair of shots in the 57th and the 76th minutes of play, but both went high of the frame.

New Hampshire opened up the game in the final six minutes of play when Will Rasid scored on a strike from 20 yards away in the 84th minute and Chris Arling scored in the 88th minute.

The Minutemen will return home on Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host Boston University at Rudd Field. The match is set for a 1 PM kick-off and will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. Admission is free to all.
