Fulton's Goal Earns Men's Soccer Draw At CCSU, 1-1

Junior's goal in 67' forces double-overtime road tie for Minutemen.
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Jack Fulton's second half goal proved the equalizer in the 67th minute earning the UMass men's soccer team a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Central Connecticut State on Tuesday night at the CCSU Soccer Complex.
The marker was the first of the year for the junior transfer helping the Minutemen move to 4-2-2 overall. UMass will return home to Rudd Field on Saturday afternoon to host Hartford at 1 PM.
The Blue Devils (3-3-1) opened the scoring in the 30th minute when DeShawn Parker received a through-ball in transition before firing off a shot that curved just inside the far post giving CCSU a 1-0 lead.
UMass nearly tied the match in the 36th minute on a counter attack with Henry Steinkamp carrying the ball down the near sideline. He played a centering cross that found Davis Smith at the top of the six-yard box but CCSU keeper Nick Valleca was able to make the sliding punch save.
In the second half, Fulton provided a wonderful individual effort as he fought through three defenders after the Minutemen won a 50-50 ball in their offensive third. The junior carried the ball through the 18-yard box before sending a sliding shot past Valleca to tie the match 1-1.
Neither side could find the go-ahead goal in regulation which forced the overtime periods. Both teams attempted a pair of shots in the first overtime, while the Blue Devils added another in the second overtime.
For the match, CCSU held a 13-to-12 edge in shots and an 8-to-5 advantage in corner kicks. UMass keeper Bardia Asefnia was credited for four saves, while Valleca made six.
