AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse head coach Angela McMahon has announced the addition of Jana Drummond and Zoe Ochoa as assistant coaches. Drummond joins the Minutewomen after a four-year stint at Marist, while Ochoa begins her coaching career after a stellar four-years as a student-athlete at Boston College.

"I am thrilled to welcome Jana and Zoe into the UMass lacrosse family," said McMahon. "Their tireless work ethic, contagious enthusiasm, and passion to develop student-athletes will be a wonderful addition to our program as we seek to further our success both on the field and in the classroom."

Drummond served as a defensive coordinator and coached the Red Foxes' draw specialists, while also managing the team's academic plans and calendars over the previous four seasons. Under her tutelage, several Red Foxes were nationally ranked players including Hailey Wagner who became the single-season draw control record holder at Marist.

"Having worked with and coached against Jana in the past, she is an extremely passionate and detail-oriented coach that has done a terrific job developing players at Marist," said McMahon. "She has a keen sense of strategy and defensive schemes that will only make our defense better going forward. Jana is a tireless recruiter and will undoubtedly make a positive contribution to the culture of our program."

As a defensive coach, Drummond helped Marist win its first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season championship in 2014.

As a player, she was a three-year co-captain and three-time all-conference selection for Oregon and graduated in 2013 with a double major in psychology and sociology. She is the program's all-time leading scorer with 146 goals.

Drummond has also worked extensively in collegiate lacrosse camps across the country and was the program founder and director of the Great Lakes Elite Under-19 Women's Lacrosse Travel Team.

At Boston College, Ochoa was a three-year starter whose career was highlighted by the Eagles' 2017 NCAA runner-up finish during her senior year. Her 372 career saves is fourth all-time at Boston College. A native of Longmeadow, Mass., Ochoa twice earned the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement and was a three-time selection to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She finished her career with 70 games played, a 10.74 goals-against-average and a 38-19 overall record. Following her senior year, she was drafted by the Philadelphia Force of the United Women's Lacrosse league.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Zoe back to Western Mass," said McMahon. "I watched her develop into one of the nation's elite goalies over the past few years and she is a true ambassador of leadership and hard work. Her positive attitude and approach to the game are both infectious and her experience at Boston College will most certainly help our goalies and defensive unit."

UMass is coming off a 17-4 campaign this past spring which saw the Minutewomen capture their ninth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship title and reach the NCAA Tournament second round. Over the last seven years, UMass has been one of the winningest programs in collegiate lacrosse with a 128-18 record in that span - behind only Maryland in terms of total wins (143). The Minutewomen will open the 2018 season with a 54-game win streak against Atlantic 10 foes in regular-season play which is an all-time NCAA record.
