Trio Selected to IWLCA North-South All-Star Game

AMHERST, Mass. – A trio of UMass women's lacrosse seniors have been selected to the IWLCA North-South All-Star Game as announced Friday. Sarah Crowley, Allison Ryan and Callie Santos will all take part in the annual showcase event which will be hosted for the first-time ever at the U.S. Lacrosse National Headquarters in Sparks, Md.
The IWLCA will host a trio of all-star games featuring Division I, Division II and Division III players on Tierney Field on Saturday, June 3. The Division I team will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Division II (12:45 p.m.) and Division III (2 p.m.) all-star games. Admission is free and all three games will be streamed live on IWLCA-tv.com.
This marks the third time in the last four years that UMass will be represented by three players in the showcase event.
Crowley, a third-team IWLCA All-American, anchored the UMass defense and while also adding an offensive touch after scoring the game-winning goal in the league's time game. She set a UMass single-season record with 46 caused turnovers as part of a team single-season record of 244. She set a single-game record for the Minutewomen with six caused turnovers against Marist this year. The senior was named to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region First-Team, the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the All-Atlantic 10 First Team. Prior to the All-American honor, the senior was named the ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was a selection to the All-ECAC First-Team.
Ryan, UMass' co-captain this spring, was a second-team All-Atlantic 10 selection as a senior. The Norwood, Mass., native had a banner season with 32 caused turnovers, 46 groundballs and 11 draw controls as one of the top defensive players in the league. She finished her UMass career making appearances in 70 games while helping the Minutewomen win four consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship titles during her career.
Santos also finished her UMass career on a high note as one of the Minutewomen's top offensive players. The Bedford, N.H., native had a career high 68 points on 44 goals and 24 assists. Her six goals in the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament, highlighted by four in a thrilling win over Richmond in the title game, earned her All-Atlantic 10 Tournament Team honors. A 2015 All-Atlantic 10 First Team honoree, Santos finished her career with 101 goals and 141 career points.
UMass finished the 2017 campaign with a 17-4 overall record and its seventh consecutive perfect run through Atlantic 10 play (9-0). The Minutewomen captured their ninth straight (10th overall) Atlantic 10 Championship title before advancing to the NCAA Tournament Second Round following a win over No. 10 Colorado.
