Redshirt junior tied school record with eight goals in come-back win over George Mason.
AMHERST, Mass. - After tying a school record with eight goals to lead the UMass women's lacrosse team to a come-from-behind win over George Mason, redshirt junior Hannah Burnett has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
This marks the third time the attack has earned the league's player of the week honor. The Minutewomen (13-3, 8-0 A-10) remained unbeaten in league play after a 19-9 win over George Washington and an 18-17 win over George Mason last weekend. The two victories extended UMass' NCAA record win streak to 53 consecutive games against league foes in the regular season. The win over the Patriots also gave UMass the Atlantic 10 regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Huntington, N.Y., native notched 12 goals and an assist in the two games including the game-winning score against the Patriots. She tied her career-high and a UMass single-game record with eight goals, including five in the second half, while adding an assist in the Minutewomen's come-from-behind win over George Mason. UMass trailed by as many as four in the second half before Burnett was able to help spark the rally.
In the win over the Colonials, she scored four goals on seven shots.
The attack has a career-best and team-leading 51 goals and 10 assists this season as one of the top players in the Atlantic 10.
The Minutewomen will finish out the regular season this Saturday at Duquesne (12 p.m.).
