Morehead State opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Will Schneider led off the inning with a single up the middle and later crossed the plate on an RBI single to center by Trevor Snyder.
The Eagles broke the game open with six runs on six hits in the fourth to push the margin to 7-0 and went on to post 11 runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Senior Mike Geannelis started on the mound for UMass and took the loss (2-3), allowing seven runs on 13 hits over five innings and striking out three. Curtis Wilson picked up the win (4-2) in his start for Morehead State, throwing six shutout innings and scattering five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Five Minutemen combined for the team's five hits in the contest. Sophomore Cooper Mrowka had the team's lone extra base hit on the day, a double in the second inning.
UMass will next face Siena at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, on Tuesday, April 4 at 3 p.m.
