Senior named A-10 Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for fourth time this season.
AMHERST, Mass. - For the fourth time this season, UMass senior defender Sarah Crowley (Greenlawn, N.Y.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The Minutewomen improved to 6-0 in Atlantic 10 play (11-3 overall) after wins at La Salle and St. Bonaventure which extended their NCAA-record league win streak to 51 consecutive games.
Crowley had a pair of standout games where she caused three turnovers, collected nine groundballs, controlled 11 draws and scored a pair of goals. In the win over La Salle, the senior forced a pair of turnovers, had six groundballs and controlled nine draws while also tallying the two goals. After the Explorers scored eight first half goals, she helped the defense limit La Salle to just two in the second half.
In the win at St. Bonaventure, the defender had a caused turnover, three groundballs and two draw controls. She helped the defense give up just one first half goal – the fewest of any half of the season. Additionally, Crowley and the defense allowed just one free position goal on nine attempts in the two games highlighted by holding SBU to 0-for-5 on Saturday.
The Minutewomen will return to action this Friday, April 21 against George Washington (2:30 p.m.) and Sunday, April 23 against George Mason (1 p.m.) at Garber Field. Sunday's game against the Patriots will feature a special Senior Day recognition following the game along with a halftime recognition of alumnae for year's ending in '7' (1987, 1997, 2007). Admission to both is free.
