La Salle Downs Women's Soccer, 6-2, Snapping Unbeaten Streak

Rebeca Frisk and Sarah Beaulieu tallied goals for the Minutewomen (6-6-2, 3-2-1 A-10). The Explorers were led by three goals from Madison Bower along with scores by Marcela Robinson, Chloe Lewis, and Paige McDowell.
La Salle (11-3-1, 6-0-0 A-10) remains perfect in league play this season after the win. The Explorers opened the scoring in the 12th minute of play when Lewis tucked a tough-angle shot under the crossbar from the right flank. In the 28th minute, Bower picked up her first goal of the game as she tapped in a cross inside the near post.
UMass responded just 16 seconds later when Frisk re-directed a free kick cutting the deficit to 2-1. Sini Laaksonen struck a hard ball from 22 yards out on a free kick that deflected off Frisk inside the 18-yard box.
The Explorers regained the two-goal lead in the 34th minute on Bower's second goal of the game taking a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, La Salle extended its lead to 4-1 in the 52nd minute when a lofty free kick from 47 yards out by McDowell took a quirky bounce through traffic inside the 18-yard box before crossing the goalline.
Bower completed the hat trick nearly six mintues later before UMass scored on a heavy strike from distance that tucked under the crossbar by Beaulieu in the 87th minute.
Robinson tallied the final goal of the match in the 89th minute when she headed home a corner kick service inside the back post giving La Salle the final 6-2 score.
La Salle held a 17-to-12 advantage in shots and won five corner kicks while the Minutewomen did not have one on the day.
Cassidy Babin took the loss in net making a pair of saves while allowing four goals in 56 minutes of work. She was lifted by Peyton Ryan for the final 34 minutes of action. Ryan made four saves and allowed two goals in her first career match.
Larisa Zambelli earned the win for La Salle making four saves while giving up one goal in 67 minutes of play. She was relieved by Claudia Jenkins who allowed one goal while making no saves in 23 minutes of action.
UMass will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 12 at George Mason (7 PM) before then heading to Duquesne on Sunday, Oct. 15 (1 PM). Both matches will be streamed on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
