Early Goals Lead George Mason Past Women's Soccer, 3-1

FAIRFAX, Va. - A pair of goals in the first 17 minutes of play paved the way as George Mason defeated the UMass women's soccer team 3-1 on Thursday night at George Mason Stadium. The loss drops UMass to 3-3-1 in Atlantic 10 play and 6-7-2 overall.
Thursday night's match kicked off a three-match road swing for the Minutewomen which will resume on Sunday as UMass head's to Duquesne for a 1 PM kickoff.
The Patriots (7-8-1, 4-2-1 A-10) opened the scoring early as Rebecca Callison scored her first goal of the season in the fourth minute of play. The lead doubled 12 minutes later when Daniela Neves scored on a shot from 35 yards out giving Mason a 2-0 lead until the second half.
Thomas notched her second goal over the last three matches cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 65th minute after knocking home a corner kick service.
George Mason responded five minutes later to retake the two-goal lead, 3-1, when Kayla Hamric scored from just outside the goal box.
The Minutewomen were able to generate a pair of shots down the stretch, but one went high of target and the other was saved.
Overall, the Patriots held a 16-to-10 advantage in shots and an 11-to-1 edge in corner kicks.
UMass keeper Cassidy Babin made seven saves, while Mason keeper Louisa Moser made five.
