Men’s Swimming And Diving Falls To Army, 193-5.-105.

Owen Wright and Chris DiGiacomo picked up individual wins for the Minutemen in the 50 Free and 200 Back

WEST POINT, N.Y. University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving fell to Army 193.5-105.5 at Crandall Pool on Friday evening. The Minutemen won two individual events and picked up 10 runner-up finishes, including two in relay events.
 
The relay teams opened the night with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:34.70 before going on to take the second through fifth spots in the 400 Free highlighted by a time of 3:11.02 posted by Owen Wright, Ryan Pedrick, Kyle Stefanides and Kellen Gray.
 
Wright provided one of the first-place individual finishes with a swim of 20.85 in the 50 Free while Ryan Pedrick came in tied for second with a time of 21.45. Wright and Pedrick went on to finish second and fourth in the 100 Free later in the meet.
 
Chris DiGiacomo set the pace with a winning swim of 1:52.15 in the 200 Back while Oliver Wyeth and Jason Tovar came in third and fifth to pick up 13 points for the Minutemen. DiGiacomo also posted a runner-up finish in the 200 Free with Wyeth finishing fifth before helping lead the way for UMass in two other events.
 
DiGiacomo finished with the top time for UMass with a second-place finish in the 200 IM, an event that the Minutemen grabbed four top-five finishes with Trzewik-Quinn in third and Connar Patterson and Anthony Rizzo in fourth and fifth.
 
Trzewik-Quinn finished as the runner-up in the 100 Free as UMass once again placed multiple swimmers in the top-five of the field as Kyle Stefaindes and Kellen Gray closed out the top-five with fourth and fifth place finishes.
 
Harry Ortof and Chase Kent finished towards the top of the field in the distance swims as Ortof finished second in the 1000 Free with a swim of 9:48.23 with Kent finishing just behind him with a time of 9:48.34. Kent went on to finish one spot ahead of Ortof in the 500 Free with a time of 4:46.20.
 
In the diving competition, Trent Kindvall came in second in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter dives, recording a score of 274.35 in the 1-Meter. Kindvall was also the runner-up in the 3-Meter dive while Reece Donahue took fourth in both events.
 
The Minutemen will come home to Rogers Pool for their first home meet of the season as they are set to take on NJIT on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
