Hailey Leidel Named A-10 Women's Hoops Rookie of the Week

Rookie averages 21 points in pair of wins for Minutewomen.
AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a pair of games where she averaged 21 points highlighted by the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer against Davidson, UMass women's basketball freshman guard Hailey Leidel has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week.
Leidel had a huge week in leading the Minutewomen to a pair of victories this week with the road win at Davidson followed by a home win on national television against Duquesne. In addition to her 21 points per game, the Brownstown, Mich., native averaged 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals.
At Davidson, Leidel scored 20 points thanks to a 5-of-11 effort performance from beyond the arc. Her game-winner marked the second time this season she has beaten the buzzer for the victory. In the win over Duquesne, she scored 22 points with eight rebounds and five steals.
Overall, she was 9-of-20 (45%) from the three-pointer line and 11-of-12 (91%) at the free throw line in the two games. For the season, the NCAA's No. 2 rookie scorer has 56 made three-pointers which is currently tied as the sixth-best single-season performance in UMass program history.
This marks the third time this year Leidel has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week.
Following the wins over Davidson and Duquesne, UMass is now 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the Atlantic 10. The Minutewomen will host a pair of home games this week starting with St. Bonaventure on Thursday morning. The game will feature a special 11 a.m. tip-off for Field Trip Day where an expected 2,000 area school children will be in attendance at the Mullins Center. For the year, UMass is 7-1 at home which is the best home start since 2007-08.
